Crowned Heads Court Reserve XVIII

These cigars are the first from this brand to carry the company name in the series designation. Crowned Heads Cigars have been distributed in Germany since 2015 by our retail colleague Salih Dalay from Saarbrücken. This boutique brand was founded in 2011 by four former employees of the cigar brand CAO. It is worth noting that STG (Scandinavian Tobacco Group) acquired CAO from Tim Özgener in 2007 and planned to relocate the headquarters from Nashville to Richmond in 2011. The four founders chose not to leave Nashville and used this as an opportunity to break away from the corporate environment and build something entirely their own.

Crowned Heads Court Reserve XVIII: Exclusivity and Craftsmanship

The Crowned Heads Court Reserve XVIII (also referred to as 18, i.e. 2018) was introduced in the summer of 2018, with a total production of just 150,000 cigars across all three vitolas. The wrapper is a Mexican San Andrés, the binder comes from Ecuador, and the filler blend is entirely Nicaraguan. Production takes place—like many other lines of the brand—at Tabacalera La Alianza by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo (EPC Cigars). As always, “Ernie” stands for impeccable craftsmanship. The Success Story of Crowned Heads Cigars

These are so-called medium+ cigars that begin with pronounced woody and peppery notes—more intense than the cold draw might suggest. The second third becomes noticeably smoother, and we even detected a hint of sweet dark chocolate. In the final third, the profile turns slightly drier, in a typical Mexican manner; however, the balance and complexity of this blend impressed us.
