Crowned Heads Las Calaveras

The Las Calaveras cigars were launched in 2014 by the U.S. brand Crowned Heads. They consist of annually released limited editions, each featuring three different vitolas. Furthermore, these are the first cigars from this brand to be rolled not in the Tabacalera of Ernesto Perez-Carrillo (EPC), but at My Father, under the craftsmanship of Don Pepin Garcia.

Dia de los Muertos: Inspiration Behind the Las Calaveras Cigars

The Spanish term Calavera translates to "skull" in English, and this motif adorns the cigar box lids. It is meant to evoke the Dia de los Muertos (“Day of the Dead”), a celebration in Mexico where families gather to joyfully remember those who passed away in the previous year. Specifically, Crowned Heads (CH) draws inspiration from an etched zinc engraving by Jose Guadalupe Posada, which features a skull motif.

Las Calaveras: Limited Cigars from Crowned Heads

The first limited editions of the Las Calaveras series were introduced to the U.S. market in 2014. For these, 1,000 boxes of 24 cigars each were produced for each of the three vitolas, amounting to a total of 72,000 cigars. The first release to reach Germany was the LC52 2015. In that year, 1,250 boxes of 25 cigars were made for each of the three formats, increasing the production to 90,000 cigars for this follow-up edition.
