E.P. Carrillo: "The Godfather of Boutique Cigars"
Behind the label stands Ernesto Perez Carrillo, or simply "Ernie," also known as EPC. And he is not just anyone in the business; otherwise, he wouldn't bear the nickname "Godfather of Boutique Cigars." Born in 1951 in Cuba, the brown gold was practically placed in his cradle.
He was born in the Pinar del Río growing region, where his family has been cultivating tobacco since 1907. Ernesto remained true to his passion for cigars, even when he left the island to seek his fortune in the United States.
From the Dominican Republic: EPC Cigars
There, he led the cigar label La Gloria Cubana, originally from Cuba, whose non-Cuban version his father had acquired in the United States. His cigars were produced in the El Credito factory in Miami. In the late nineties, Ernesto sold the business but continued in cigar production. Only when he finally left the company did he focus on new projects and eventually founded the E.P. Carrillo brand.
He certainly wouldn't have earned the title Godfather of Boutique Cigars if he had simply retired: No, Ernesto continues to have cigars rolled in his Tabacalera La Alianza in the Dominican Republic and soon after founded a new label: EPC Cigars Co. By now, it’s 2009, and tobacco is once again a family affair: Ernesto's son and daughter are also on board.
All EPC Cigars: Exceptional and Award-Winning
They do justice to the name Boutique Cigars. EPC stands for exquisite things that are not everyday. Experiments are welcome, such as the almost obscenely large ring gauges of the INCH series, as well as a lot of attention to detail, like the artistically extravagant cigar bands of the La Historia series. Its successor is the Encore, which is blended exclusively with Nicaraguan tobaccos. A bit milder in character is the New Wave Connecticut, which also appeals to fans of stronger cigars.
Exceptionally diverse is the origin of the different tobaccos used by EPC. It ranges from the production site in the Dominican Republic and the indispensable Nicaragua to Mexico and even the USA, where the wrapper of the Pledge comes from. The successful synthesis of tobaccos from various origins is evident from enthusiastic press reviews. EPC cigars receive top ratings and have won multiple awards.
