Gurkha Prize Fighter
The Gurkha Prize Fighter cigars are very affordable by the brand’s standards. They are one of the many lines introduced to the German market since 2013 and now compete with an extensive portfolio for the attention of cigar aficionados. Around 10 years ago, the German market apparently was not yet “ready” for these sometimes highly distinctive, visually striking, and occasionally very expensive cigars – today, they have found their audience.
Gurkha Prize Fighter as an Affordable Cigar Line
The Gurkha Cigars brand was revived in the early 1990s by Indian-born Kaizad Hansotia and has since become highly successful worldwide. Alongside the Gurkha San Miguel cigars, the Prize Fighter line is among the most affordable Gurkha cigars. These bundle cigars feature an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper, while the filler is enclosed in an Ecuadorian Sumatra binder. The blend consists of three-year-aged Dominican filler tobaccos.
Flavor Profile, Sizes, and Positioning of the Gurkha Prize Fighter
Overall, this is a very solid budget cigar offering the expected notes of grass, cream, bitter almonds, and wood with a medium strength profile. The three different vitolas are individually wrapped in cellophane and packed in bundles of 20. The Toro was also available in a convenient five-pack, making it ideal for travel. These packs are especially popular in the United States, where they are commonly displayed at the checkout for impulse purchases and as small gifts. Within the brand’s portfolio, this series belongs to the East India Trading Company sub-brand, alongside the Red Witch, Wicked Indie, and Rogue lines.
