La Flor Dominicana Double Claro
With the La Flor Dominicana Double Claro, Litto Gomez introduced a cigar to the U.S. market back in 2012 that deliberately took a different path from the brand’s typically bold blends. In Germany, it only became available at the beginning of 2025 with the distribution switch to Kopp Tobacco. This line is aimed at aficionados seeking a mild to medium-bodied cigar experience without sacrificing depth or character. Its standout feature is the bright appearance, thanks to the eponymous Double Claro wrapper, which delivers a particularly elegant, creamy smoke profile. Other cigar producers would likely describe this wrapper color as Candela; the wrapper is noticeably greenish, and in our opinion, visually speaking, it’s “technically” not a Double Claro. Upon its international launch, the cigar was positioned as a deliberate contrast to the much stronger Double Ligero cigars from the same house – a conscious invitation to those who value finesse over sheer power.
Double Claro – A Rare Stylistic Choice by La Flor Dominicana
These cigars from the Dominican Republic are produced in the Tabacalera of Litto and Ines Gomez and feature a very light, carefully fermented Connecticut wrapper from Ecuador. English-speaking industry media at the time highlighted how difficult it is to pair such a light wrapper with sufficient flavor depth. This is precisely the strength of the Double Claro: the blend remains approachable yet never feels flat. The filler tobaccos come from the La Canela farms and form the foundation, complemented by a binder from Nicaragua that ensures balance and a clean burn. My test cigar performed really well, delivering smooth, creamy notes along with clearly noticeable hints of cocoa, leather, and wood, never becoming dull.
Gentle Enjoyment With a Distinct Signature
Typical for the La Flor Dominicana Double Claro are the additional subtle aromas of cream and a delicate, natural sweetness that unfolds harmoniously as you smoke. This makes the series suitable both as a relaxing morning cigar and as a stylish companion to a light drink. For lovers of well-balanced cigars, the Double Claro is a clear recommendation – understated in presentation, but compelling in detail. We’re very pleased that Oliver Kopp’s team has finally made these fine La Flor Dominicana cigars available here as well.
