Samana Oscuro
The new Samana Oscuro series offers aficionados a slightly more intense variation of the well-known line: While the brand is otherwise known for very mild cigars, this one marks an entry into a darker, slightly stronger flavor profile – ideal for more experienced connoisseurs. This time, the filler consists of Nicaraguan tobaccos, complemented by a binder from the Dominican Republic. The Ecuadorian H-2000 wrapper, however, now comes in a darker “Oscuro” shade – signaling a clear shift in flavor and giving the smoke more depth.
Samana Oscuro Cigars: Dark H-2000 Meets Nicaraguan Filler
The brand’s name still refers to the Samaná Peninsula in the northeast of the island of Hispaniola, which includes all of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. The Samana Oscuro series was newly launched in Germany in October 2025. Compared to the classic Samana line, this version features a darker wrapper – a typical trait of “Oscuro” types – which deliberately sets it apart within the product range. The series is also imported by the long-established German distributor Don Stefano, based in Wettenberg. Once again, the manufacturer is the very likable Oskar Nausch, who emigrated to the Dominican Republic around 40 years ago, now joined by his son Adrian, who has entered the family business. Together, they successfully run the Tabacalera Don Stefano.
From Mild Classic to Bolder Line: Samana Oscuro as a New Flavor Experience
The series currently comes in two formats: The Robusto scores with its compact length and ring gauge – ideal for a 30- to 45-minute smoking session. The Toro extends the experience and allows for a deeper development of aromas with the same blend. Both formats clearly show how Samana gains spiciness through the darker H-2000 wrapper and stronger presence – without compromising the brand’s well-known craftsmanship. Whether as a conscious step toward more intensity or a stylish alternative to the classic series – the Samana Oscuro is a balanced companion for seasoned cigar lovers. A great choice for those who appreciate solid quality with a bit more depth. You can find an overview of all Samana cigars here.
