Abe Flores: From Detours to Success in the Cigar World
It is primarily the label PDR for which Abraham “Abe” Flores is renowned. The New York native with Dominican roots, who came to tobacco through various detours, has earned high regard in the industry. His Tabacalera produces cigars for prestigious labels such as La Palina, Kristoff, Flores y Rodriguez, and Gurkha.
A unique label with character
The cigars that Abe releases under his own name were originally grouped with those from PDR. However, that categorization wasn’t entirely accurate. While they are produced in the same Tabacalera, they bear a distinct label. As a result, we’ve dedicated a separate page in our shop to the series from A. Flores.
The portfolio of A. Flores
The El Criollito line is especially popular among aficionados. The eponymous Criollo is not only found in the filler but is also used as the wrapper.
Its rich and highly aromatic tobacco provides a smoking experience stronger than what is typically expected from Dominican cigars.
Gran Reserva Cigars: The crown jewel of A. Flores
The core of the brand is represented by the Gran Reservas. Not without reason, Abe considers the Gran Reserva Corojo his flagship. This refined line, featuring a Corojo wrapper and Corojo tobaccos from various origins in the filler, captivates with its intense flavor, highlighting notes of cedar, coffee, and cocoa. The Gran Reserva Sun Grown is somewhat milder in its aromatic profile, thanks in part to its Dominican Sun Grown wrapper.
Mild with hints of nuts and citrus, the Gran Reserva Desflorado features an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper enclosing two binders: one Sun Grown from Ecuador and one from Jalapa, Nicaragua. The Gran Reserva Maduro offers a heartier profile with its Mexican wrapper.
Also noteworthy is the El Trovador line, named after the famous Verdi opera, and the very mild AFR 75, which is exclusively produced for the German importer Kopp Tobaccos.
