A. Flores AFR-75
These cigars were produced exclusively for the German importer Kopp Tobaccos from Rellingen near Hamburg and were first delivered in summer 2024. In terms of their name, however, they can already look back on a long history in a different composition: in the early 2010s, PDR cigars were already sold under this name in the USA, but apart from the name they have nothing in common with those presented here. The AFR in the name of these cigars is an acronym for the man who founded Tabacalera PDR in 2004: Abraham Flores Rosario from Queens with roots in the Dominican Republic. The AFR 75 cigars are very mild and easy to approach. With a stated strength of 2 out of 5, they can be enjoyed without any problem even before breakfast, while their complex aroma profile still makes them perfectly capable of satisfying cigar aficionados after a rich evening meal.
AFR 75 Cigars: Exclusive Creation for Kopp Tobaccos
The AFR initially offer somewhat dry, woody aromas after lighting. Later, sweeter notes emerge, pampering the palate with subtle, creamy nuances. As the smoke progresses, it becomes a bit crisper and even woodier—so perhaps not quite the perfect breakfast cigar after all! Like any cigar, the AFR 75 reveals more complex flavors when smoked slowly and with care. The Dominican blend in the filler and binder is held together by a silky Connecticut wrapper from Ecuador.
Mild Aromas: AFR 75 Cigars from PDR in Detail
The founder and owner of Tabacalera PDR is also the master blender Abraham "Abe" Flores. He was born in the New York borough of Queens, but spent his youth from the age of three with his grandfather in the Dominican Republic. Interestingly, his connection to the cigar industry did not originate from that time, but from his job search after graduating from university in the USA. After returning to his parents, he studied marketing and began working in the software industry. One of his first jobs took him to the marketing department of a cigar retailer, where he managed the online shop. There, he came into contact with numerous cigar manufacturers and became increasingly involved in the development and creation of blends for his employer at the time. After several years, he was given the opportunity to take over a small tabacalera, and in 2004 he ultimately founded his now “gigantic” Tabacalera PDR Cigars in Tamboril in the north of the island of Hispaniola. By the way, the name stands as an abbreviation for Pinar del Rio, the famous growing region in Cuba.
