Gurkha Vintage Shaggy

The cigar brand Gurkha offers an almost overwhelming variety of different cigars from various Central American countries. The Gurkha Vintage Shaggy has been produced in the Dominican Republic since 2006 and is another testament to the incredible creativity of owner Kaizad Hansotia, who has once again designed a visually appealing packaging.

The filler and binder are made from Dominican tobaccos, and the wrapper is a Sun Grown that was also cultivated there. There are three different variations: Connecticut, Maduro, and Colorado; only the Colorado variant has made its way to Germany. Flavor-wise, it's rather mild with a pleasant creaminess. Light wood and spice notes develop during the smoking experience, which are then replaced by coffee and subtle chocolate notes towards the end.

A characteristic of this series is that the foot at the lighting end is not completely covered by the wrapper. "Shaggy" in English somewhat means "untidy," which is meant to suggest that the cigar looks somewhat "wild." Lighting it is naturally a bit easier in this case, and you have a nice view of the "inner workings".... :-)

This series has only come to Germany as a small surplus, and only a few boxes are available. It's worth trying these cigars at least once, so you can at least join in the conversation at the next aficionado gathering!
