With the AVO Expresivo cigars, AVO expanded its portfolio in July 2026 for the first time with a line specifically created for aficionados looking to move from mild to more intense longfiller cigars. Entirely handcrafted, these longfillers combine tobaccos from nine different growing regions into a bold blend that harmoniously balances strength and elegance. One of the perks of my job is that I occasionally get to smoke cigars before they officially hit the market. My sample was a Robusto, and it was a real pleasure. Dark, rich flavors without any pepper—exactly my kind of cigar! From the very first draws, it revealed earthy notes, dark chocolate, and roasted nuts. As the smoke developed, flavors of leather, delicate wood notes, and creamy nuances emerged, before spices and floral accents rounded out its complex character. Unfortunately, my pre-production sample was a bit temperamental, with a rather problematic burn. But we'll generously put that down to the fact that these were "only" samples that reached us before the official launch. With a little patience and the occasional touch-up, I managed to keep it under control—it was probably just classic user error. ;-)

AVO Expresivo: Bold Cigars With the Spirit of Avo Uvezian

The AVO brand traces its origins to Armenian-born jazz musician Avo Uvezian, who was born in Beirut in 1926. After a successful career as a pianist and composer, his passion for cigars brought him to the Dominican Republic in the early 1980s. There, together with Hendrik Kelner, he developed his first proprietary blends and laid the foundation for a brand that continues to stand for balanced compositions and exceptional craftsmanship. Hendrik "Henke" Kelner founded the cigar factory that was originally licensed to produce Davidoff cigars. He later sold the factory and retired in 2020. Uvezian viewed a cigar like a piece of music: every component should make its own contribution while remaining part of a harmonious whole. He passed away on March 24, 2017, at the age of 91, but his philosophy continues to shape AVO to this day.

AVO Expresivo Formats

The new line is available in the Robusto, Toro, and Churchill formats. All three vitolas feature the same sophisticated combination of Honduran filler and binder tobaccos, complemented by Nicaraguan tobaccos and finished with a silky Ecuador wrapper. While the Robusto delivers the intense flavor profile in its most concentrated form, the Toro provides more room for the subtle transitions between spice, creaminess, and sweetness. The Churchill showcases the blend in an especially balanced way, allowing its layered flavors to unfold gradually over a longer smoking time. Anyone looking for a modern premium cigar with depth, balance, and distinctive spice will find the AVO Expresivo to be an exciting addition to the AVO family. Traditionally, AVO cigars have been known for their mild to medium-bodied character, whereas the AVO Expresivo line is designed to venture into new territory.
