A. Flores Gran Reserva Sun Grown

The Tabacalera PDR Cigars (named after the Cuban city of Pinar del Río) in Tamboril in the Dominican Republic and its founder Abe Flores have brought considerable momentum to the Dominican cigar world since their establishment in 2004. Abe’s trademark is that he has all cigars rolled in the Cuban, significantly more elaborate entubado style. Among other things, he also produces numerous successful cigar lines for Gurkha and La Palina.

PDR Cigars: Abe Flores' Tribute to Cuban Traditions

Interestingly, he was born in the United States, specifically in Queens, NY, while his family originally comes from the Dominican Republic. This may also explain why he is somewhat more “relaxed” when it comes to emulating Cuban packaging units and cigar bands. The band of the Flores y Rodriguez 10th Anniversary Edicion Limitada, which is also produced by him, strongly resembles, for example, a limited edition from the Cuban brand Ramon Allones from 2011. Likewise, the 5-pack box of the Half Corona is similar to the H. Upmann Half Corona.

Abe Flores' Cuban-Inspired Masterpieces: The PDR Cigar Series

In this variant with the Sun Grown wrapper, the flavor profile is somewhat more restrained than in the original Corojo series from 2012. Originally, there were only five different vitolas, of which initially only two made their way to Germany. The filler also consists of a blend of the finest Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos. The binder and the wrapper are Dominican as well, though this time in a slightly milder Sun Grown version. Here you can find the PDR 1975 A Flores Gran Reserva Corojo 2006, which has been available on the German market since 2012. In the meantime, his portfolio has grown significantly. In the early 2020s, he also carried out a visual relaunch of his entire range and changed the German importer. Today, all his PDR cigars are available through the importer Kopp Tobacco.
