Humidor Tripa larga

Looks: very nearly flawless, medium brown, tiny tear by the foot. Cold: Leather with hints of nut, cocoa and stable (manure). Hot: Leather, soil, cream, straw, vanilla and pepper. Salty to the tongue. After 12 minutes: hints of nut and chocolate. 30 minutes in: soil increases, notes of wood, green tea, an almost damp-stained quality and a strange bitter nutty fragrance, like the membranes in a walnut - this combination continues till the end. Last third: notes of pepper again. after 50 mins: hints of licorice. Overall: the 1st half: pure bliss - 2nd half: The combination of flavours was very strange and not undisputeably pleasant. Burn, draw and cumbustion flawless for two thirds of the duration with a medium smoke development. During the last third the burn was a bit uneven and the draw slightly troubled. Ash firm and winding in a speckly grey pattern (30 mm). A strange experience that needs repetition - i simply have to know if this is the norm of the brand and vitola. The smoke lasted 65 minutes. Decent looking, medium brown cigar. A few bulky ribs in the wrapper but the edges were tucked in nicely. Cold: Chocolate and nut with hints of manure. Hot: licorice, vanilla, straw, soil and wood. I found hints of pepper and a trace of wood. Draw and smoke development was ok, but there was a tendency to uneven burn and it had to be corrected twice (had some impact on the quality assessment). Ash was a slightly dark speckly grey with brownish patches and a firm structure (32 mm). The combination of wood and pepper felt quite sharp during the first 10 minutes but mellowed a bit after that and lingered as a mild sharpness throughout the rest of the smoke. The overall impression was acceptable but it will probably not be a repeat experience. The smoke lasted 55 minutes. December 19th 2014.

This medium Brown mareva looked very close to perfect. Cold: Manure and hints of chocolate and nut. Hot: Leather, nut and chocolate with hints of Vanilla and licorice. Construction was very firm, with seriously bad Draw and smoke Development as a consequence. combustion was tolerable but the strenght of aromas unimpressive. Ash was light grey and firm (30 mm). All in all a major disappointment. The smoke lasted 45 minutes (I gave up) November 22nd 2013

Nice looking, only a small rib in the wrapper.Cold: light stable (manure) and a hint of leather. Hot: Sharp pepper and leather, last half: hints of vanilla, chokolate and licorice. The discrete components of the taste are pleasant and intriguing but unfortunately pepper stays dominant throughout the smoke. Maybe a spot of aging would have been appropriate. Draw and combustion close to flawless. Smoke development not impressive but adequate. Ash firm and slightly flaky (25 mm). Other experiences with the Partagas Brand and several reviews has made me suspicious that my sample wasn't typical. A theory i will have to test at some point. The smoke lasted 55 mins. Optically a beautiful cigar; long elegant with a flawless wrapper. Cold: Predominantly stable (manure). Hot: notes of pepper, leather and licorice. hints of vanilla. The licorice notes become faint towards the last two thirds of the smoke. The stick is way too firm, which leads to uneven burn issues. Ash is firm and slightly flaky 3 cm. The draw is WAY to bad and ruins the experience .., 70 mins December 20th 2013

Optically not too shabby - a few ribs in the wrapper. Cold: notes of stable (manure) and hints of spice. Hot: Notes of leather, citrus and vanilla. Hints of licorice, nut and cocoa. Burn uneven and troublesome, ash a bit loose slightly under 2 cm. The smoke 75 mins. The Cigar a bit too firm in construction and the burn issues made the experience a disappointment ... Aged 13 years. Looks: light brown, several bulky ribs in the wrapper but edges were fitted acceptably. Cold: Traces of manure, chocolate, nut and straw. Hot: Traces of nut, chocolate and licorice, with hints of straw, wood and vanilla. All of it very faint. The experience was frustrated by an almost solid construction. Draw was nearly impossible, smoke development feeble and combustion slow. Ash was flaky, dark grey, speckly and semi-firm (about 18 mm). My face turned an interesting shade of purple in the attemp to lure some smoke from this contraption - and i gave it up after 20 minutes. This must be one of the worst constructed cigars i have tried so far ... july 4th 2014

Looks a bit sloppy, box press, edges of wrapper sligthly flappy in places and there are a few large ribs showing. The cigar is medium brown. Cold: Stable (Manure), Leather and a hint of nut and chocolate. Hot: The beginning is somewhat promising; notes of licorice, vanilla, soil and straw with hints of wood, pepper and leather. There are traces of nut and chocolate as well. Suggestions of a very complex experience. Unfortunately this sample was very firm in construction, making draw difficult and smoke development unimpressive. After 10 minutes burn was rather uneven and had to be corrected. After 15 minutes the cigar had to be relit. The rest of the smoke was dominated by corrections and relighting - after 35 minutes i gave up. I will have to try this one again as the flavour seems to be there. I just hope I can find a better specimen. May 9th 2014
