Die Quisqueya Maduro Toro ist ein dominikanischer Mediumfiller mit einer Fülle von verschiedenen Tabaken. Auf einer informativen "Banderole" kann man ablesen: "Wrapper: Brasil Natural Maduro/Binder: Original Java Besuki/Filler: Dominican and Nicaragua Ligero and Seco". Eine "richtige" Bauchbinde, passend in schwarz-gold gehalten, befindet sich natürlich auch an dieser Zigarre. Das Deckblatt der Maduro Toro erscheint recht rustikal; an Zug und Abbrand (sehr helle Asche) ist nichts zu meckern. Der Geschmack der Maduro Toro ist bei deutlicher Würze ziemlich komplex: Es dominieren rauchige "Röstnoten" von Holz, Kaffee und Nuss. Eine "Leder-"Note lässt fällt ebenfalls auf. Eingebettet in eine liebliche Cremigkeit wirken diese Röstaromen auch nicht zu trocken oder bitter. Grasige Nuancen sind ebenfalls präsent und zum Ende hin gewinnt die Maduro Toro noch etwas an pfeffriger, aber nicht unangenehmer Schärfe. Insgesamt ist die Quisqueya Maduro Toro also ein geschmacklich interessanter und keineswegs zu leichter Genuss zu einem fairen Preis. Bin nicht unbedingt ein Freund der (v.a. helleren) Dominikaner, aber für diese Zigarre gibt es von mir eine klare Empfehlung! Würde ich nun der bei mir auch sehr beliebten, aber dreimal so teuren Auroa Untamed Robusto vorziehen. Rauchdauer: Ca. 60+ Minuten (könnte gerne noch etwas mehr sein...)

Fazit vorweg: Einfach lecker. Ich bin wieder mal überrascht worden, was Bundles mitunter geschmacklich liefern können. Auch die Verarbeitung, der Abbrand und der Zug sind erstklassig! Pairing mit Kaffee zum Frühstück nur zu empfehlen.

Aficionado Dom. Rep. Half Puro (Indonesien, Nicaragua Dom. Rep.). Die Bezeichnung TAF stimmt nicht mit der Beschriftung der Bauchbinde überein. Dort steht TAM drauf. Das dunkle Maduro-Deckblatt ist feinadrig und sieht mit der schwarz-goldenen Bauchbinde sehr edel aus. Das Deckblatt verspricht Kakao und Kaffeearomen. Der Kaltzug schmeckt ebenso. Der Beginn fängt mit viel Schokolade und Kaffee mit etwas Nussaromen. Die Asche ist hellgrau und leicht schuppig. Das Rauchvolumen ist gut und auch der Zugwiderstand ist gering. Ab Mitte der Vitola wird der Kaffeeeinfluss deutlicher und ein wenig Pfeffer ist im Nachgang zu vernehmen. Im letzten Drittel wurde ein Ledergeschmack dominanter und ersetzte das Schokoladenaroma. Der Rauchgenuss endete nach 70 min. Preisleistungsverhältnis ist OK. Preis: 3,30 €

The Quisqueya Maduro series is one of the best-value cigar ranges I have smoked. I have personally smoked every format except the Torpedo. Across all the formats I have tried, the tobacco profile, flavor, packing, and construction are remarkably consistent.
Every cigar is firmly and evenly rolled, with excellent burning behavior and a very smooth smoking experience. The ash retention is particularly impressive: almost every cigar holds close to two inches, or approximately five centimeters, of ash.
The flavor profile is sweet, creamy, and strongly coffee-driven. Toffee is especially prominent, together with a noticeable chocolate character, particularly in the shorter formats. There is also a slight leathery note, but no fruitiness. The cigars are incredibly smooth and soft, with a natural Maduro sweetness that remains pleasant throughout the smoke.
Smoke production is moderate to well formed, with a slight bluish tint. This is not an especially smoky cigar, but it produces a reasonable and consistent volume of smoke. The flavor development is very good, especially considering the price.
Nicotine strength remains mild to moderate through most of the cigar, but it builds significantly during the final third. In the longer formats, the nicotine can eventually become strong enough to overpower the other flavors.
The main differences between the formats are not in the tobacco or construction, but in the way the length affects the smoke temperature and flavor development. The shorter formats bring out the coffee, creaminess, toffee, and chocolate almost immediately. This is why I particularly enjoy the Petit Corona in the morning with coffee. It provides direct access to the flavor profile without delivering too much nicotine.
The Robusto is my favorite format when I want to smoke for a longer period. It provides more smoking time while still retaining enough warmth, smoke volume, creaminess, coffee, and toffee character for the flavors to develop properly.
In the longer formats, the first flavor that often appears is dry leather. Because the smoke travels through a much longer cigar, it becomes cooler and less expressive. The Viajantes is my least favorite format for this reason. It produces relatively little smoke and very little flavor at the beginning, almost like smoking a meerschaum gourd pipe. By the time the smoke becomes warmer and more expressive, usually during the last third or final quarter, the nicotine has built up so much that it dominates the other flavors.
If I want an exceptionally cool smoke, I would rather smoke a pipe with well-aged tobacco. For me, a cigar should retain some warmth so that its flavors can develop properly. This is also why the Churchill, Toro, Matador, and Viajantes are not among my preferred formats. Of the longer cigars, the Matador may be suitable for someone specifically looking for an extended smoking time, but I would personally choose the Petit Corona or Robusto instead.
These cigars pair particularly well with rum and red wine, although in different ways. The acidity of red wine provides a pleasing counterpoint to the Maduro’s creaminess and sweetness, creating a balanced contrast. Sweeter rums work differently: their sweetness reinforces the cigar’s natural Maduro sweetness, creating a harmonious combination of sweet rum, creamy tobacco, coffee, toffee, and chocolate.
Both pairings work extremely well, but red wine balances the cigar through contrast, while sweet rum complements it through similarity. Because of their smooth, creamy, and soft character, these cigars also pair well with whisky and bourbon.
The value for money is exceptional. At €3.50 for the Petit Corona and €4.00 for the Robusto, this series offers an enormous amount of flavor and overall cigar quality for the price. Villa Zamorano cigars cost the same amount or even more, yet offer nothing comparable in flavor, smoothness, construction, or smoking enjoyment. In my experience, the Quisqueya Maduro provides several times more cigar for the money.
I have not yet smoked the Torpedo, although I would like to try one. My conclusions about that format are therefore not based on personal smoking experience.
I will continue buying the Petit Corona and Robusto. I would not personally buy the Churchill, Viajantes, Matador, or Toro again. For someone who wants the best balance of flavor, warmth, smoking time, and nicotine, I strongly recommend the Petit Corona and Robusto formats.
The Quisqueya Maduro series holds the top position in my humidor titled Top Cigars Under €10. It is, without question, the best cigar series in that humidor, especially in the Petit Corona and Robusto formats.
Verdict: Highly recommended — the best cigar in my Top Cigars Under €10 humidor.
P.S. All cigars reviewed here are aged for at least six months at 19°C (66°F) and 69% relative humidity. Before smoking, they rest for approximately two weeks at room temperature and 62% relative humidity to acclimatize and develop a more balanced, representative flavor.
